Do you want to learn more about Leadership and yourself? Then think Basic Scout Leadership Course. The purpose of this course is for the members of the Scout Section to train and develop their leadership skills, particularly as they look at moving into a leadership role, within their patrol, or even their unit. Completing this course is also a requirement for completing your Australian Scout Award.

Activity Overview

THIS ACTIVITY IS SELF CATERED ASIDE FROM SATURDAY DINNER

To be eligible to attend this course and benefit from the training, a Scout should:
· be at least Twelve years of age;
· have consulted their Unit Council or Unit Leader;
· display an attitude that they are doing their best to keep the Scout Promise and Law;
· be willing to participate fully in the course program;
· have the endorsement of the Unit Council and Scout Leader;
· have a Scout Leader willing to attend the weekend with them (if possible)

Scouts will be camping outside at the venue, so a tent, sleeping bag, pillow, camp clothes for the weekend, full uniform, personal hygiene gear, towel, and mess kits, will be required. Please see your Leader or email the Course Coordinator if you have any questions.

Other equipment required is pens notebook/paper, 1 or 2 newspapers, and a great attitude.
No thongs or sandals are permitted. Please bring a hat and sunscreen.
Places are limited and it is asked that Leaders attend with Scouts.
Leaders will be asked to assist over the weekend.

Course Information

The course runs from Saturday morning, with the course commencing at 08:00 and concluding at 14:00 on Sunday. You are more than welcome to arrive on Friday night, on or after 17:00.

The weekend will be SELF CATERED aside from Saturday dinner, where we will be doing camp ovens.

Scouts will be placed into Patrols and will undertake a series of Leadership challenges. These patrols may change over the course of the weekend, as will the Patrol Leader.

The BSLC is a Sun Safe event and all participants are expected to wear a broad-brim hat (not a cap) and a collared shirt.

Any member who doesn’t follow the rules and obey the Scout Law will miss out on activities and could be sent home.

Who should come?

Senior Scouts who are ready and willing to participate as determined by their Unit Council.

Leaders who have Scouts attending.

Camping

Need to supply own tent and mess kit.

Membership Requirements

All members must remain financial and registered on ScoutHub from the time applications close until the end of the event.
