The first aim is to provide instruction on how to surivive by gathering the natural resources around you.  The second aim is to appreciate how Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islanders survived & thrived in their natural surroundings.  Also, to understand their culture, stories and connection to the land.

What we will do:

Friday:

You'll arrive at the Byron Scout Hall . This will be a staging night & introduction to the weekend.

Saturday:

We'll drive to Lennox Heads where we will start our day's 13 km hike.

Instructions on gathering bush foods, seafoods and stones for making implements later will be provided. Stories of the land and cultural areas of significance will be introduced during the walk. Opportunities to fish, forage for shell-fish, and enjoy the beach along the way.

The walk will finish at Ballina Scout Hall.

There – a bush-food inspired dinner will be prepared. Participants may be guided on how certain bush-foods can be prepared.

Later that night, a story-telling process will be initiated where ATSI members are invited to share personal stories of growing up in Australia.
