Brief Summary:
Parramatta District catapult challenge. This is a Scout Patrol activity for Scouts and linking Cubs.

Description: 

This is an open invitation night to all Scout Patrols in Parramatta District for a fun activity.
The aim is to use ropes, knots & spars in a fun useful way with some friendly competition & increase pioneering skills in the District.

Patrol registration: 

To register a Patrol the PL needs to:

  • Click the 'Add Patrol' button on the right, then enter their Patrol name and PL details, then save and close
  • Click on the new 'Manage' button, then enter details of the Scouts in their Patrol (first name, surname and Scout membership number)

Location:   

Shirley Street Reserve near 1st Carlingford Scout Hall - drop off/pick up adjacent to 11 Shirley Street, Carlingford

Refer to the attached map for directions:

  • travel along Shirley Street from South to North, so Scouts do not need to cross the road - refer to the red line on the map
  • do not enter either Boundary Roads (marked in orange) as both are dead end streets and will cause a traffic jam - Leaders will be using Boundary Street to drop off the gear for the Patrols 

Rules: 

  1. Design may be a :-
  • Catapult with rubber tubing or bungee cord
  • Ballista with throwing arm & pull rope
  • Trebuchet (max 100kg counterweight) & must be inspected by your Unit Leader before use (throwing small cars, flaming balls, etc disallowed)
  1. Any design is allowed but must have a minimum of 6 Scout knots & no screws, bolts or similar excepting container attachment for holding ammunition in place for firing.
  2. Patrols using any elastic material such as rubber tubing, bungee cord must have a set of Safety Googles for the Scout firing the sponges.
  3. All gear required for your design & sponges for ammunition with buckets must be brought by your Patrol.
  4. Wet Sponges are the preferred ammunition as no clean up is involved. Patrols bringing Water Balloons will be asked to clean up the rubbish by torch light at the end of the night.
  5. Patrols may fire upon any other Patrols they wish once their construction is finished & their Scout Leader is happy that it is safe toperate.
  6. The District challenge will be based on which construction can launch a standard projectile the furthest distance (best of 2 shots).
  7. Common sense, fair play & the Scout Law is to be followed by all at all times & fun is the order of the day.

Wear:   

Scout Uniform with closed in shoes.

Bring:   

Day pack containing:-

  • drink bottle
  • head torch
  • spare set of dry clothes
  • towel
  • snacks (optional)
