General Information

This is an adventure weekend of vertical canyoning. Attending this workshop provides training for Safe Participant, Trained Participant, Assistant Guide and Guide along with the ability for youth members to achieve you Stage 4 Caynoning OAS under Vertical (Youth Program).

The course is suitable for Venturers, Rovers, and Leaders.

Abseiling Experience is required to attend this activity.

The theory night is held at Barra Brui Scout Hall and includes a mix of theory presentations and practical components covering personal equipment, rope skills, abseiling in canyons, walking skills, environmental protection of canyons, logistics, risks and minor emergencies.

Likely Canyons: It is intended at this stage to do canyons in the Grose , Mt Wilson or Newnes Plateau on the Saturday and Sunday. Please ensure you arrive at the meeting place with your backpack fully packed and canyon clothes on and ready to canyon. Teams will be organised on the spot and you will need to be ready to move to another vehicle once the teams are sorted and then be ready to travel immediately.

Theory Night Information

The Theory night is a PREREQUISITE for all novice canyoners.

Commences at 7:00pm sharp and finishes at 9:30pm. Please ensure you can be picked up no later than 9:45pm.
Out of uniform at the Barra Brui Activities Hall.

 

Practical Day Information

Meeting place at 7:15am at Bilpin Park, Bilpin, Bells Line of Road. See Link on Google Maps.

SNR does not cater for (provide food), nor provide transport to this course. If you require transport please talk to the organiser(s) at the theory night to see if arrangement can be made.
Catering / Food / Water:  By individual or Unit / Crew (there are no shops near the event location).

Personal Equipment

EQUIPMENT AND GEAR LISTS including any clothing and specific food requirements for the weekend will be provided at the Canyon Theory Night. List of Gear for canyoning can be located here.

SNR does not provide tents, cater for (provide food), nor provide transport to this course. Sometimes transport may be possible in Leader(s) vehicles but this cannot be guaranteed. Costs for Food transport and equipment hire if any are not the responsibility of Region.
