NSW State Vertical Activity School
An achievement-focused vertical school for those with existing verifiable skills working toward Assistant Guide and Guide (Cert II and Cert III).
NSW is running a Vertical Activity School during the April holidays.
Program:
20 April – school opens at 1500 (Activity Guides only please arrive early, 9am start)
21 April – consolidate and align abseil, belay and rigging skills
22 April – vertical rescue skills and complex vertical rescue (for those who hold vertical rescue already) skills
23 -24 April – stream into major: canyoning, caving and climbing sections to consolidate skills
25 April – dawn ANZAC service, school closes at 1100
Participant Pre-requisites:
Youth: must be 14 years of age and hold a minimum of OAS Stage 4
Adult: must hold Trained Participant Core and Safe Participant Abseiling who can prusik
Must provide a verifiable logbook
Logistics:
Sleeping: Provide your own tent and sleeping gear, the school is under canvas!
Transport: We are examining options including the train from Sydney to and from Marulan and minibuses from Marulan to Bungonia campsite and activity locations.
Catering: The School will be fully catered.
Equipment: You will need to bring your helmet and harness, prusik loops, carabiners, and your preferred descender. We will specify further equipment details on registration.
Locations:
The primary location is Bungonia where we have access to caves, cliffs and canyons.
Climbing alternate locations include Nowra and Mittagong.
Canyoning locations includes Macquarie Pass, Bungonia and Blue Mountains.
Attendee Roles:
Participant – you are seeking to build your skills toward Assistant Guide.
Assistant Guide – you are identified by the Vertical Council as operating at the Assistant Guide level and are working toward Guide. You will be working at the School as an Assistant Guide.
Guide – you want to help others build their skills and will be working at the School as a Guide.
Welfare – you aren’t a vertical person but want to help with participant welfare, catering or other support roles.
Photography – you love photography or videography including drone videography and want to support us in that way.
