Brief Summary:
This overnight canoe trip is for Venturers, Rovers, Leaders and adult helpers who are experienced canoeists and either: - need an overnight canoe trip for their logbook and are working towards gaining trained participant in canoeing on flat water; OR - have safe or trained participant and wanting to paddle in new areas in preparation for taking out youth participants from your group Please read additional information for full details.

This overnight canoe trip is for Ventures, Rovers, Leaders and registered Adult Helpers. You can borrow a canoe or bring your own. If you are bringing your own canoe, you MUST bring it down to the pre-activity briefing. 

On Thursday 16/5, everyone will meet at Epping boatshed. The purpose of this will be to:

  • Participate in a pre-activity briefing including covering safety, risks and roles/responsibilities, transport
  • Discuss required gear and menu plan
  • Select and check canoe, paddle and PFD
  • Load canoes onto trailer

On Saturday 18/5, everyone will meet at Crosslands Reserve at 8.30am. Free parking is available. You will canoe along Berowra Creek with the aim of camping at a remote campground along the river, either Twin Beaches Remote Campground (15km) or Marramarra Creek Remote Campground (23km) depending on the group and weather conditions. There are other options available if required. There are toilets available at both campgrounds but you need to bring your own water, cooking facilities etc.

On Sunday 19/5, everyone will complete the return paddle back to Crosslands Reserve and then all go back to Epping Boatshed to clean down the equipment and help pack it away. If you don't have your own transport to go back to Epping Boatshed to help pack away the equipment, please discuss carpooling at the pre-activity briefing.

What to bring:

  • Canoe barrels can be borrowed on the Thursday evening if you do not have dry bags for your gear
  • Shelter/Tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, inflatable pillow (optional)
  • Working headtorch
  • Food and water (always pack more than you need)
  • Cooking and eating utensils
  • Personal first aid kit, medication, aeroguard, sunscreen
  • Toilet paper
  • Wide brimmed hat with chin strap
  • You must wear enclosed water shoes (not crocs or thongs)
  • Wet weather gear, change of clothes and something warm e.g. thermals or wetsuit (There are no capsizes planned but you should always be prepared in case there is an accidental capsize)
