Brief Summary:
An opportunity for experienced sailors to gain their trained participant in sailing. This event is for currently registered Ventures, Rovers, Leaders and Adult helpers. Please see additional information for all details.
Additional Information

The purpose of this day is to provide the opportunity for experienced sailors to demonstrate their skills to support gaining trained participant in sailing. The Water Activities Centre (SWASH) has RS Quests to sail, PFD's and safety boats to support the activity. A sausage sizzle is provided for lunch.

On the day, you will demonstrate practical skills including:

  • Rig and derig a sailboat (we have guides as you may not have rigged a quest previously)
  • Ability to sail safely following waterway rules and negotiating hazards
  • Heaving to
  • Recovering a lost crew member
  • Recovering from a capsize
  • Operating under tow
  • Communication skills

You will also demonstrate knowledge through:

  • Bringing gear/clothing appropriate for the conditions
  • Providing a safety brief (please bring a prepared safety brief with you)
  • Participating in a group discussion on waterway rules and markers

On the day, you need to bring your up to date logbook and completed sailing workbook attached.

In addition to demonstrating your sailing skills, to become a trained participant you need:

  • Core modules (We can assist if required, just let us know in advance)
  • Basic water rescues (You need to enrol in this independently)
  • Current first aid cert (You need to enrol in this independently)

Activities are subject to suitable weather conditions. If for any reason the event is cancelled, you will be able to rebook or obtain a refund. If you are unable to attend after registering, you will not be entitled to a refund.
