Shakedown Camps are set to organise the Jamboree Unit for the trip to Maryborough, Queensland in January 2025. The camp will give each Jamboree Unit the chance to get to know each other a little more and see who is displaying strong leadership skills in their patrols. The Camp also provides an opportunity to review the Unit Equipment listing and ensure that all equipment is in working order before being packed up and sent to Queensland in November.
Scouts and Leaders will be camping in Tents provided by the Jamboree Unit. Sleeping will be in single sex tents, as patrols and will follow Scouts Australia Policy. Scouts and Leaders will require normal sleeping gear, sleeping mat, sleeping bag etc. A detailed listing of the types of sleeping gear and other items will be provided by your Jamboree Unit Leader.
Scouts and Leaders should arrive in Scout uniform and ensure that a set of normal camp clothing is easily accessible. Please ensure you bring toiletries and a bath towel as well as a torch.
All medication, even self-administered should where possible be placed in a clip lock plastic bag, clearly labelled with the Scout or Leader's name and dosage requirements. These will be held by your Jamboree Health & Hygiene Leader. If you have any concerns regarding medication, please ensure you talk to your Jamboree Unit Leader and Health & Welfare Leader ahead of time.
The structure of this camp is very similar to that of a Jamboree. Your Jamboree Unit will provide you with all meals that will be cooked and cleaned up after based on the Patrol System and in full camp conditions. We will be holding a Unit Council and will be working together to achieve targets as patrols over the weekend. Cooking will be on LPG BBQ's and stoves.
It is compulsory that all Scouts and Leaders attending the Jamboree attend Shakedown Camp. This camp is preparation for the benefit of the Scouts and Leaders , ensuring they are fully prepared both physically and mentally, for 10 days of unbelievable activities and experiences.
