This is an express version of our normal Rigging & Rescue course which will consist of an online theory night, pre-reading & practise, and an intensive weekend. The training sessions will start on the Friday evening so please plan to attend that.
The course is self catered.
If you want to build on your skills and work towards being able to take other people out abseiling then this is the workshop for you. Learn how to set up abseils, rig for rescue, and get yourself and others out of difficulty. This covers aims to get you through the content of the Trained Participant and Assistant Guide levels of the VET qualifications to give you a solid base to build you abseil skills on. Participants can also use this course to cover items in their OAS levels 5,6 & 7. We aim to also assist participants with the RPL of their Trained Participant Core.
It is expected that participants assist on a couple of Safe Participant Courses, and/or attend followup workshops to fully achieve competency at a VET standard.
Repeat Participation in the course is free.
The course is suitable for Venturers, Rovers, and Leaders.
The course assumes completion of OAS Stage 4 or equivlant knowledge (at least 10 abseils accross two ocassions, ability to prussik, ability to operate a top belay). However we generally get a broad range of skill levels from people who have recently completed their Safe Participant/OAS 4 course right through to very experienced people who are getting up to speed on Scout's NSW standards for rigging & rescue.
Additional readings will be sent out a week before the course, and after each theory session.
Looking for more abseiling check out the Sydney North Region Website.
If you are an appointed guide in a rockcraft displine we'd love to have you along as a helper to help us deliver the best experience for the course, and also to expand the number of participants we can take on the course.
Trainees with significant experience (close to submitting your guide paperwork and have had a fair bit of rigging and rescue practice in scouting ) are also welcome and encouraged to sign up as staff.
