Brief Summary:
Join us on a beginner-to-intermediate overnight bushwalk in beautiful Wondabyne. Earn your Stage 4 Bushwalking badge just by coming along. Open to Venturers in the Iron Cove District.
Additional Information

This overnight bushwalk is open to all Venturer Scouts in the Iron Cove District. At a beginner-intermediate level (Grade 3), it’s a great way to gain bushwalking experience, but may prove physically challenging for some who aren’t usually active.

A compulsory (but relaxed) theory session will be run on Thursday, 10th April, 7-9pm at 1st Balmain Scout Hall (103 Mort St, Balmain). At the theory session and hike, we’ll cover Bushwalking OAS and you’ll be able to earn your Stage 4 badge (or higher, depending on previous experience).

We will venture through beautiful Wondabyne, from Little Wobby to Wondabyne Station via Mount Wondabyne. The cost payable online via Scout Event is $10. An Opal card will also be required for the trains and an additional $5.50 in cash (or preferably card) for the ferry payment. Please ensure you bring your Concession Entitlement if you have one, or your ferry fare will be $10.50.

We will meet at Central Station, Platform 8 at no later than 08:30, Saturday morning, for the CCN to Wyong via Strathfield.

Please bring your own tents, food, and cooking equipment. If you’re coming with other Venturer Scouts from your Unit, this is easier. Food suggestions and a packing list are available as downloads from the Scout Event page for this activity. We will discuss all this at the theory session. Note that the packing list has required items, so please ensure you have these.

You must have four litres of water, plus any cooking water. We will not be able to refill water except in an emergency, so ensure you have a sufficient amount when we meet.

The route we will take can be viewed online at this link:
https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/little-wobby-to-wondabyne-station-8b1ecf6

The activity is remotely supervised by Stephen Doggett (0406628040) and the emergency contact is Mark Bartter (0424081387). Remote supervision means that the leading Venturer Scouts are qualified and responsible for the group, but an Adult Leader is able to respond within 12 hours at most (though, the response time for this activity is likely a few hours at most).

As we will meet at a theory session on Thursday 28th November, any weather-related issues will be discussed then. The theory session will be run regardless of any cancellations, and will allow participants to complete much of their Stage 4 Bushwalking badge (minus the actual bushwalking).
