Brief Summary:
Mountain Bike Skills Weekend - A great weekend of Mountain Biking in the Southern Area of our Region
Additional Information

This weekend has been organized to enable Leaders and Rovers to enhance their skills and attain the qualification of Trained Participant, allowing them to lead safe cycling and mountain biking activities for youth.

Additionally, this is an excellent opportunity for Venturers to advance their Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS). Participants must have achieved at least OAS Cycling Stage 4 and be working towards Stage 5 or higher, with the aim of improving their abilities and acquiring relevant qualifications.

The program will include mountain biking at Jolly Nose Mountain Bike Park, where participants will ride on trails ranging from green to blue. To ensure they can fully participate, attendees must be physically prepared to ride distances exceeding 20 kilometers over the weekend.

Mountain bikes (MTBs) are available for hire, and the associated costs are included in the overall event price.

Accommodation is kindly provided by Camden Haven Scout Group, who have offered their grounds for our use. These costs are also incorporated into the event price. The Scout Hall is equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, fridge, and showers for participants’ convenience.

Please note that this is a self-catered event. Participants are required to bring their own food and camping equipment to ensure their comfort. For convenience, a Coles supermarket is located nearby, close to the Scout Hall, and a coffee shop is also within walking distance for those in need of a caffeine fix.

As the activities at Jolly Nose Mountain Bike Park include off-road, single-track trails, attendees must bring a mountain bike with gears that has been serviced to handle fire trails and off-road conditions. The bike's tyres should be durable enough to navigate this terrain effectively.

Participants should also bring the following items to prepare for the equivalent of a day hike with a pack, as well as specific items required for mountain biking:

  • Helmet

  • Bike light

  • Water (minimum 2 liters)

  • First aid kit

  • Tyre repair kit and spare tube

  • Tyre levers

  • Small pump

  • Mobile phone
