General Notes:
Hume Region Joeys are invited to attend a fun canoe day working towards our Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) Paddling stage 1. You will be learning and practicing some basic canoe paddling skills and safety, there will also be swimming involved in the basin, e.g. Nepean River (wearing PFD's). Limited spaces, maximum attendees is 48.
*It is recommended that Joeys are confident in deep water and a reasonable swimmer though, not a prerequiste (they will be wearing PFDs) - Joeys will be assessed by Leaders prior to activity. Parents need to tick the "Swimming" and "Water/Boating Activities" permission boxes on this form otherwise, youth will not be allowed to participate.**
***Scout's PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices - NB: This is not a "life jacket" but an aid for floating) will be provided, if you have your own well-fitting PFD - please bring with you.***
ACTIVITY LOCATION: Bents Basin State Conservation Area, Bents Basin Road, Wallacia. Also accessible via Wolstenholme Avenue, Greendale.
NB: There is a car parking fee of $8 per car for those staying (parents are not required to stay). It is recommended you bring coins for the car parking as mobile phone reception can be sketchy.
##Parents are to walk their Joeys down to activity area beside basin to registration table where Leaders will be.##
WEAR: Your swimmers (togs) and rash-shirt (prefer long sleeved) under your Joey shirt and scarf, fully enclosed shoes (runners) with socks, shorts, sunblock, sunglasses (with strap so don't lose them) and sunhat.
BRING: Backpack with; water booties (or old runners - no thongs or crocs allowed!) - enclosed footwear must be worn at all times that do not come off your feet, a towel, 2L bottled water, change of clothes, warm jumper, raincoat, morning tea snacks and lunch.
COVID-19: Should anyone feel unwell with flu-like symptoms, please do-not attend. We will have hand sanitizer for all to use and will take a role call of all attendees.
CANCELLATION: Should the weather or water conditions at Bents Basin prove unsuitable, we may change venue to Thirlmere Lakes, Slades Road, Thirlmere. You will be advised by your Joey Leader hopefully the day before. In the event of flooding or forecast stormy weather, the event will be cancelled with a maximum refund of $4.
