This is a one-day activity for members to have an introduction to sailing. This is a skills day for you to gain skills only. This is NOT an accredited training course. It will partially align to Stages 1, 2, 3 & 4 of the AOS Boating skills. Leaders can use activity as evidence to go towards SP & TP sailing.
There will be some H&C Region Laser sailing boats to share, or you can bring your own sailing boat.
The exact location hasen't as yet been confirmed but it will be on the northern end of Lake Macquarie.
You will learn skills in rigging and trimming the boat, sailing techniques including tacking, reaching, sailing down wind, going about, jibbing and capsize.
Participants will need to supply their own PFD (minimum Level 50) and have enclosed water shoes. Please note that self or auto-inflating PFDs are NOT permitted for any use in any Scout Water Activity.
Food
Bring your own drinling water and food and snacks for the day.
Clothing
Bring suitable water clothes to wear on boats. A spray jacket or long sleeve jumper that can get wet. A hat (may get wet)
Bring a towel and dry clothes to change into. Bring a dry jumper. Sunburn cream.
Enclosed shoes must be worn at all times. Bring a dry set to change into.
