Weigh in on arrival, maximum pack weight youth and adults 20% of your total bodyweight with a 5% leeway for food, water and consumables (toilet paper, sunscreen, hand sanitiser, liquids, etc.)
This activity is taking place on the middle weekend of the Sept/Oct school holidays. Rovers, Leaders, Adult Helpers, Cubs, Scouts & Venturers. We have moved from Sunday 28th September due to overlap with Cuborette.
Meet at Hawkesbury River Station 9 am, if trains are running a train from Strathfield should arrive 8:50 am. We can wait for this train if it is delayed.
Direct and indirect supervision, youth allocated to patrols and provided with space to learn by doing.
A swim may be possible if conditions are safe and appropriate supervision can be provided.
Saturday 4th October start 9 pm Practice day walk. Great North Walk – Hawkesbury River Station to Powerline View then return to Brooklyn Dam campsite approx. 6 km + 3 km on firetrail. Some steep sections, we have plenty of time.
Camping overnight at Brooklyn Dam campsite
Sunday 5th October finish 4 pm Navigation day firetrails, walking track and some exploration/off track within 1.5 km of Brooklyn Dam. Porto Ridge Loop and return to Brooklyn approx. distance 7 km, some steep climbs Scenic water views on the ridge above Brooklyn. Shoes with good grip and sunglasses recommended due to bushes.
Please note the distance between William St Gate and and Brooklyn Dam is approx. 2.5 km via the Brooklyn Dam service trail. The firetrail is not a public road, access is for railway and emergency service vehicles.
Please note expected finish at Hawkesbury River Station is 4 pm, if delayed we can send a text message earlier in the day.
This involves extended strenuous physical activity and endurance. Suitable for youth and adults who exercise and or play sport regularly.
This bushwalk is self-catered so please bring whatever suits your liking. It is important to bring sufficient food for the duration. Choose hearty and nutritious foods that will provide sufficient energy.
Prepare for bush toileting and hygiene during the hike. Campsites have pit toilets and sandy camping flats.
Please bring spending money for afternoon tea on Sunday.
