Brief Summary:
The aim of the weekend is to experience walking and camping in cold weather conditions.  It provides an opportunity to practice the use of cold weather equipment, exercise safety procedures, enjoy the alpine environment, learn about cold weather cooking and camping.   This weekend is to help gain experience in Alpine condition prior to learning other alpine activity such as cross country skiing.  There will be plenty of discussion and opportunity for questions, working in small groups and hands-on activity. Arrive by 9:30am to be ready to hike at 10:00am.
Additional Information

This activity is not available for Joeys and Cubs. Scouts must be mature and have overnight bushwalking experience.

Pre-requisite 

Participants must have done the Alpine Introduction day and have experience in overnight bushwalking whilst carying all of their gear food and water. If you feel you have the necessary skills but have not done Alpine Introduction contact Tom before registering for the event!

This weekend is to help gain experience in Alpine condition prior to learning other alpine activity such as cross country skiing.  There will be plenty of discussion and opportunity for questions, working in small groups and hands-on activity.

There will be an additional NPWS camping fee to be paid on the day to NPWS.

You can arrive Friday night and Camp at Polblue campsite if required. There may be no Activity Leader present.

PREPARATION:

  • Prior to the walk you should complete the attached navigation activity.
  • It is advisable to have a dry set of clothes in your car for the trip home.

SATURDAY

You will meet at Polblue campsite Saturday morning.

You will walk in small groups along trails to night campsite. 

Please bring lunch that does not require cooking as there won't be a lot of time to cook.

Note:

You should not have to walk any more than 20 kms (about 10k each day), unless we get geographically embarrassed sad, and there is a strong possibility of SNOW or RAIN; so Be Prepared.
