THE ACTIVITY - Intermediate Abseiling for participants who already have achieved Stage 4 abseiling.
This is a two day activity held in the Broken Back Range near Cessnock- Overnight bush camping. No facilities. Bring own camping gear and all food and water.
The activity is located at the end of Broken Back Rd near the transmission towers.
You can come into camp on Friday night if you want to. A Leader from your Group must camp with you.
Saturday 8:00am.
This is a weekend activity to build on existing abseiling skills.
PRE- REQUISITES -Completed a Basic Rock and Abseiling activity.
ACTIVITY LEADERS - This activity will be conducted under the leadership of qualified activity guides and leaders.
SITE - Brokenback Rd. See attached map or search Google maps for Transmission Towers Broke. Camp site is on track to left just before you get to Towers. Road in can be slippery when wet.
No one is allowed to go near any cliff face unless directed to by course Guides.
Cliff heights in the area range from 10 meters and go to about 100 meters. Beginners will be restricted to lower height cliffs.
The activity is in a bush camp setting with no facilities provided. Everyone will require to understand the issues around toileting in a bush setting.
Food & Water:
Each applicant is to provide their own personal gear, food and water for the duration of the activity (No sharing of food or water).
CLOTHING / EQUIPMENT - This activity will be conducted on and around cliffs and suitable clothing and footwear are required. It can be cold during day and at night so bring suitable clothes and sleeping bag.
All applicants will need access to a suitable 4 point rock activity helmet, a harness, leather gloves and abseiling gear if possible. The Region does have equipment available for those who don't . Once equipment is issued it can not to be shared with others. Sturdy footwear, a shirt that will tuck into their shorts/trousers.
Those with long hair will need to have it tied back and tucked into clothing or wear a hair net.
RECOGNITION - all participants should be readily identifiable as Scouts for the duration of the activity - scarf / camp shirt etc
