Gosford District Overnight Scout/Venturer Hike 2025 - Brooklyn Dam

Meet at Gosford Train Station at 8.00am to catch the 8.31am train.

Day 1

For the beginner hikers (approx 3kms), exit train at Hawkesbury River Station and follow Dangar Rd to Brooklyn Rd, turn right onto Brooklyn Rd, follow Brooklyn Rd to the last house on the left, step over the guard rail fence and follow The Great North Walk up towards Brooklyn Dam Trail, turn right onto Brooklyn Dam Trail and follow trail until we reach Brooklyn Dam where we will camp for the night.

For the hikers that want a more adventurous hike (approx 10kms) continue in the train until Cowan Station where hikers will follow the Great North Walk Trail down to Jerusalem Bay. From the station, hikers will continue to follow the Great North Walk until they reach The Great North Walk Brooklyn Dam South Branch Trail which they will follow until they reach Brooklyn Dam where they will camp for the night.

Day 2

Leave camp at Brooklyn Dam and follow Brooklyn Dam Trail north and The Great North Walk Trail back towards Hawkesbury River Station to catch the 10.50am train arriving back at Gosford Station by 11.15am.  Total walk is approximately 3kms.

Train Fares

Scouts will need an Opal card with sufficient funds to cover the following train fares:

  • Gosford to Cowan = $4.34
  • Hawkesbury River Station to Gosford = $4.34

Please use the attached list to assist in preparing the equipment you need for the hike. Please remember that all equipment will need to be carried for the entire weekend and Scouts should try to ensure their packs weigh no more than 20% of their body weight. Consider sharing tents and cooking equipment to reduce your weight.
