Brief Summary:
This event is for Scouts or Venturers. If you currently have Bushcraft OAS 3, this event will allow you to get Pioneering OAS 4. If you currently have Pioneering OAS 4, this event will allow you to get Pioneering OAS 5, which is a requirement for the Australian Scout Award. Attendance at 3 online Theory sessions and a in-hall practical session is required.
Additional Information

For those wanting Pioneering OAS 4:

Attend the theory sessions to cover off design and safety in the below Pioneering projects. We will also cover other OAS 4 theory topics such as equipment care.

  • 5m flagpole
  • Chariot

At the practical session, you will build the above constructions. You will also need to show mastery in 11 common knots and lashings.

 

For those wanting Pioneering OAS 5:

Attend the theory sessions to cover off planning, design and risk assessments covering the below Pioneering projects.

  • A camp kitchen (3 kitchen gadgets)
  • A ropeless bridge
  • 3m long bridge
  • Using and maintenance of axes and saws

At the practical session, you will build the above constructions. You will also need to show mastery in 17 common to advanced knots and lashings. 

Note: to complete all the Pioneering OAS 5 related I Can statements in Terrain, you will also need to attend a Provide 1st Aid course. This is not covered in this event.

 

Online Theory Sessions:

The online theory sessions are on the following days. They are recorded in case you missed one. Each session will have design deliverables that are then discussed as a group.

  • Monday 28/07/2025, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm
  • Monday 11/08/2025, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm
  • Monday 25/08/2025, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm

 

Practical Session:

The practical session is on the following day. It is mandatory to attend the practical day.

  • Sunday 07/09/2025, from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the 1st Ermington Scout Hall
