Who: The hike is aimed at Scouts and those wanting to gain OAS 3-4 experience. Not aimed at absolute novice. Our general rule of thumb is you need to have successfully completed at least one decent (3-4 hour) day walk prior.
About the hike:
Just past Polblue Campground on the Barrington Tops Road, the Scone-Glouster Road over the Barrington Tops, we start our walk on Friday night to Little Murray Campground (5km in).
If it helps you, it is possible to drive into Little Murray on Saturday morning, just let us know.
Saturday we head along Narrow Plain trail to Barrington Trail - avoiding the Phytophthora quarantine area. Then South to Junction Pools camping area, lunch and set up camp. Then over Aeroplane Hill to Blackswamp junction follow Big Hole trail south to Careys Peak Lookout. At 1544m this is one of the highest points on the Barrington Plateau.
On a clear day, you can see from the Blue Mountains across to the Stockton sand dunes. Afternoon tea then back to Junction Pools for tea! Sunday - retrace back to cars at end of Barrington Trail and Barrington Tops Forest Road for final pickup at Polblue campground.
Food and water.
Participants need to bring all of their food and water for the weekend.
Camping:
Participants need to bring and carry all of their camping gear for the weekend.
Check for road closures:
At present time (date of this event opening) the Barrrington Tops Road is closed on the Eastern side comming from Glouster due to bridge washouts. Western side is open.
