This is a catchup day for ABS25E Prac that was rained out, and for staff helpers. No other registrations will be accepted at this time.
General Information
This is the base-level course for participation in rockcraft activities and is required for vertical canyoning and caving. Attending this workshop will give you a great grounding for rock adventures and you can even earn you Stage 4 OAS Abseiling (However you must abseil on at least one other occasion before or after the course to complete the OAS requirements).
The course is suitable for Venturers, Rovers, and Leaders. Unfortunately we can't accept Scouts or younger on this course, due to the length of the day and the level of supervision we are able to offer - however Scout Units can register for Scout Abseil Days.
Theory Night
The theory night is held at Barra Brui Scout Hall and includes a mix of theory presentations and practical components (prussiking, knots, setting up abseil devices, care of equipment).
The theory night registration is combined with the prac day for the same course number, you do not need to register separately.

Its strongly recomended to review and practise the knots using the knotting guide before the theory night -> Knotting Guide (SP Section Only)
Digital copies will be provided prior to the course if you don’t have access to Teams
Practical Day Information
The practical day is held at Wahroonga Rocks. Participants aim to complete 10 abseils on a variety of abseil devices as well as practising belaying skills, and prussiking.
Meeting place at 8:30am at Wahroonga Rocks - End of Cliff Road (Cliff Road Oval) Wahroonga.
DO NOT BE LATE.
SNR does not cater for (provide food), nor provide transport to this course.
Catering / Food / Water: By individual or Unit / Crew (there are no shops near the event location).
Transport: By individual or Unit / Crew.
Bring:
- Suitable Clothing (including Jumper, Rain Jacket)
- Clothing should not leave exposed skin near the waist to protect from rope burn
- Clothing should have long enough legs that a harness is on clothing rather than skin (at least 15cm inseem).
- Water + Lunch.
- Your Prussiks.
- Your Workbook with theory questions completed.
- Printed out logbook.
- Sunscreen
Times:
- Arrive 8:30am and walk down to the rocks – map in your email.
- Finish approximately 4pm.
You will be:
- Completing at least 10 abseils on different devices.
- Top Belay and catch a falling Guide.
- Do prussiking over an edge.
- Get assessed on your knots.
- Get your theory answers assessed.
Helpers Welcome
If you've attended a Rigging & Rescue course or equivlant ( covering TP & AG abseiling technical content) and are of Venturer age or older then you are welcome to attend the course as a helper to build your skills as you work towards sign off of you TP/AG or Guide Abseiling. You will be appropriately suppervised by a Senior Guide. If you are from out of region and unsure if you have equivlant training feel free to send me an email (Guides obviously also needed and welcome).
Helpers will need to comply with the directions and standards set by the SNR Rockcraft team.
If you are interested please register in the helper category - there is no charge for helpers.
Note: leaders who have not attend the Rigging & Rescue course and are working on Safe Participant should register as participants.
