This activity is open to all Scouts (12 years old and over), Venturers, Rovers and Leaders.
Accomodation at the NSW Scouts Alpine Centre in dormitory style bunk rooms.
To ensure the safety and care of our youth members, ALL youth members under the age of 18, will need to be supervised by/assigned to an adult for the entirety of the weekend. This adult will need to be nominated at time of booking. If you are an older youth member that would like to attend this event independently, please reach out to us to discuss having one of our team be the supervising adult for the weekend.
Making your way to the snow
Make your way to the NSW Scouts Alpine Centre on Friday 7th Aug. Please arrive after 4:00pm, but before 10pm. There will be no access to the Centre after 10pm. If you are unable to get to Jindabyne by 10pm, we suggest you travel early on Saturday morning and join us then.
Departing back to Sydney
The event will end on Sunday 9th Aug mid afternoon after a day on the snow - We will be departing the Activity centre at 7am on Sunday morning and heading out to the snow for the day, we not be returning to the centre.
Catering
All meals will be included in the price from Saturday Morning to Sunday lunchtime.
Age limit and acceptance
This will be a reasonably physical demanding activity and as such it is only open to persons over 14 years of age. For youth members between 12 and 14, please contact us to discuss suitabity. The Alpine team will be running a Cubs and Joey snow play weekend later in the month to accomodate younger applicants.
Please also note that ALL participants, regardless of role, need to be a registered Scout member (Youth, leader, parent helper etc) and their membership needs to be up to date, with all mantatory training and checks (WWC/Police) current and in date. All applications will be reviewed by the event admin and succesful applications will be informed by email. Acceptance to this event is entirely at the descretion of the Event Admin.
Refunds
We are a volunteer organisation and will endeavour to do our best to refund all funds in the case of cancellations. However any costs to us in organising the event (ie, food / Accomodation that has already been purchased) will be passed onto applicants in the form of reduced refund amounts. This will be at the discretion of the event admin. All refunds will incure a minimum $10 fee to cover our admin and credit charge fees.
The deposit refund is entirely at the discretion of the event administration but typically deposits are non-refundable.
Transport
You will need to make your own way to the Jindabyne and car pool where possible.
You will need to have access to transport on Saturday and Sunday to get to and from the Alpine Activity Centre to the snow fields around Perisher. You will be responsible for your own transport costs and park entry fees.
If you know that you will need help with transportation between the Alpine Activity Centre and Perisher, then please reach out to us well in advance of the event so that we have the time to try and arrange help for you. However, ultimately, transport will be yout own responsibility.
Activity Venues
Perisher Cross Country Trails
We will be Cross country skiing or Snow Shoeing at the Perisher cross country ski trails. All groups will be accompanied by Scouts NSW appointed Guides. We will have activity station around the trails where persons can participate in Snow Games, Learn survival skills for Alpine touring, Snow craft, avalanche awareness and Alpine navigation.
XC Ski and Snow shoe Hire
Ski Hire IS NOT included in the event price
We have arranged an extremely good discount at Rhythm sports in Cooma for the event. Approx $75 for hire of Cross Country boots, stocks and Skis (NNN BC) or snow shoes for the two days. .
Please note that this discount is not available to Scouts outside this event.
We will book and reserve your gear for you. You, as the participant, will be responsible for paying at the time of pick up for your own XC ski or snow shoe hire.
Outcomes from the weekend
If you want to pursue qualifications and OAS progresions
We will be offering opportunities for
OAS training and recognition for components of Alpine cross country skiing, Snow Camping, Snow craft, Alpine Survival and Snow Shoeing up to stage 6. This, of course is dependant upon individuals abilities.
