Brief Summary:
The purpose of this event to learn and practice skippering a power boat. A boat licence is not required for you to participate.

This course is suitable if:

  • You do NOT have a boat licence, but want to get one. This course will provide you with the 3 trips and knowledge requirements for your Transport for NSW Boat Driving Licence Practical Logbook. 
  • You have a boat licence but want to increase your skills and knowledge (does not cover safety boating)

If you do not have a licence, the process to obtain your general boat driving licence is:

Note: Scouts is not an Authorised Training Provder, but we can sign off the logbook. Obtaining your power boat licence will allow you to become a Safe Participant in power boating. 

During the course we will cover power boating on Lane Cove River, Parramatta River and Sydney Harbour. We will cover:

  • Preparing and launching a power boat
  • Basic driving and manoeuvres at various speeds
  • Picking up a buoy, coming alongside a deck and person overboard
  • Basic towing (not safety boat towing)
  • Dicussion on waterway rules and risks when power boating

BBQ lunch provided each day

You will need to bring/wear:

  • IMPORTANT: On tbe boat, you are likely to get wet and there will be a wind chill factor. Ensure you have thermal gear, wet weather jacket etc to keep yourself warm.
  • sunscreen
  • hat
  • morning/afternoon tea
  • water bottle
  • sunsafe clothing (long sleeves recommended)
  • wear fully enclosed shoes that will get wet (no crocs, thongs etc)
  • dry bag with carabiner for anything you want to take on the powerboat
  • dry clothes to travel home in

The Water Activities Centre will provide you with a PFD to wear on the day and a sausage sizzle and can of soft drink for lunch both every day.

Activities are subject to suitable weather conditions. If for any reason the event is cancelled, you will be able to rebook or obtain a refund. If you are unable to attend after registering, you will not be entitled to a refund.
