Brief Summary:
Canoeing from Swallow Rock Reserve to Audley Weir where we will have lunch. From Audley Weir to the rock pools at Swallow Rock and return to Swallow Rock Reserve. Covering OAS stages 3-5.

Event Objective - Skill building for Scouts and Venturers with Paddling.

What to bring with you - Participants need to bring hat, sunscreen, lunch, morning and afternoon tea, wet shoes, enclosed shoes, a dry pack to keep belongings in with a rope attached, two bottles of water (total 2 litres), rashie or fishing shirt, swimmers and or board shorts, sunglasses, dry clothes.

Personal Flotation Devices will be provided but you can bring your own if you prefer.

Canoes will be provided.

  • Canoeing from Swallow Rock Reserve to Audley Weir where we will have lunch. From Audley Weir to the rock pools at Swallow Rock and return to Swallow Rock Reserve.
  • If hazardous weather such as storms or 20+ km winds the event will be postponed.
  • Have completed Paddling stages 1-3.
  • Challenge is medium and grade 1 but differentiated to suit the stages Scouts and Venturers are at.
  • Leaders are welcome to come and build up their hours for their logbook.
  • Meet at Swallow Rock Reserve at 9:45 am where there will be a safety talk. Leaving the reserve in canoes by 10:15am. Arriving at Audley 12 PM. Return to Swallow Rock Reserve by 3PM.

Scouts and Venturers will paddle with a partner or on their own. Depending on the canoes. They will be learning different paddle strokes and practise/learn safety skills such as rescuing someone from the water and into the canoe.

The Scouts and Venturers will be getting into deep water and swimming.
