Leader Information - Martin Beaupark and Susan Smith who are guides for canoeing on flat water. Event Objective - Skill building for Scouts and Venturers with Paddling. OAS Stages Covered - Paddling: Canoeing on flat water OAS Stage 3-5 What to bring with you - Participants need to bring hat, sunscreen, lunch, morning and afternoon tea, wet shoes, enclosed shoes, a dry pack to keep belongings in with a rope attached, two bottles of water (total 2 litres), rashie or fishing shirt, swimmers and or board shorts, sunglasses, dry clothes. Personal Flotation Devices will be provided but you can bring your own if you prefer. Canoes will be provided.
Scouts and Venturers will paddle with a partner or on their own. Depending on the canoes. They will be learning different paddle strokes and practise/learn safety skills such as rescuing someone from the water and into the canoe. The Scouts and Venturers will be getting into deep water and swimming. |
