This workshop is an introduction to basic rope and abseiling skills. It is aimed at Scouts (14 and older), Venturers, Rovers, and Leaders.

This workshop is designed to cover the practical components for OAS Abseiling Stage 5 / Safe Participant. Components of OAS Abseiling Stage 6+ and Trained Participant may also be achieved. However, all outcomes will depend on the participant and conditions on the day. 

If you have any specific goals, contact the course coordinator before the closing date.

Completion of this workshop will allow you to go on GWSR Canyoning and Caving activities. It can also be entered into your activity log book and used as evidence for further qualifications.

Locations:

Wednesday 4th March at Bundilla Scout Camp, 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm.
       Address is: Bundilla Scout Camp, 6 Baden Powell Pl, Winston Hills NSW 2153

Saturday 7th March at Bowen Mountain. Start 8:00 am, finish 3:30 pm.
       Address is: we meet at 2 Lieutenant Bowen Rd, Bowen Mountain NSW 2753 and walk to abseil site on the Burralow Firetrail.

Sunday 8th March at Yellow Rock (near Winmalee). Start 8:00 am, finish 3:30 pm.
       Address is: Yellow Rock Lookout, Yellow Rock NSW

 

All participants should bring with them:

  • Pen
  • Morning tea and lunch
  • Water
  • Raincoat and sunscreen
  • Personal equipment (if owned).

 

Please note the practical days can be called off if it is raining or a fire is in the area.

There must be a minimum of 6 participants for the workshop to go ahead.

If you are unable to attend any of the theory or practical sessions, you must advise the activity coordinator as early as possible/ prior to the Wednesday theory night. This is to allow notice if participant numbers fall below the minimum and the workshop is cancelled.
