Brief Summary:
The Leadership Course is designed to give Venturers practical leadership skills for their Scouting journey and future endeavours. Venturers will work in teams during the course and have the opportunity to gain practical experience through running activities at School for Adventure. The course covers the requirement for the Personal Development Course in the Achievement Pathways for the King's Scout Award. John Dwyer – SM Region Commissioner - Venturers and Andrew Hay - venturer Leader Georges River Unit will be in charge of the course with support from a range of Leaders and Rovers. The Venturer leadership course will be held at the Girl Guides Karingal campsite & training facility Karingal, Engadine NSW , 39 Achilles Road, Engadine. The course has been very successfully run at this facility for over 16 years so the highly experienced training team is very comfortable with the facility. Venturers and leaders will camp within the grounds of Karingal which is well set up for this purpose (there is no indoor accommodation at this facility). The course will be conducted primarily inside Karingal House which has a fully equipped kitchen, two stoves/ovens, two refrigerator/freezers, one microwave and a dishwasher along with a dining room and a large separate activity area where the course content will be delivered. Karingal has a separate amenities block with hot showers that are available for the youth members. There are separate female youth and adult toilets and hot showers for in Karingal House. Youth and adult male toilets are located in the camping ground. Venturers will need to bring a small tent and bedding (same gender tent sharing is fine). Plates and cutlery will be provided. Venturers will need a drink bottle, notebook and pen, suitable weather casual clothing including, their Scout uniform and a broad brimmed hat.

ABOUT ATTENDANCE AT THE TWO DAY PROGRAM

Over the period of the course, Venturer Scouts will be placed in Patrols with Venturer Scouts from other Venturer Scout Units. The program will focus on the Patrol System with Venturer Scouts rotating Patrol Leader responsibilities during the day and having other opportunities to develop their confidence in leadership skills.

The course will be run inside the meeting room at Karingal Girl Guide Camp and at the Heathcote Scout Training Centre and any outdoor activities in the direct area. Please note that Karingal Girl Guide Camp and Heathcote Scout Training Centre both have natural groundcover. Please wear full scout uniform and enclosed active shoes. Bring a raincoat, pen, notebook and medication (if required).

Medical and dietary details must be provided on the e-permission form which is part of completing the application process including advising whether the Venturer Scout will be bringing any medication to the course and at what times of the day or night it is required to be taken.

The event will go ahead except in the case of a major weather event. Participants will be emailed in the day before if this occurs. Food is provided over the duration of the course from supper on Friday through to lunch on Sunday.

At the course, there will be workshop discussions together with some practical/physical activities and challenges. These activities are to practice planning and execution in a patrol/team environment. None of the activities classify as “Adventurous Activities” and involve no more physical involvement than would be typical at many weekly home Group Venturer meetings.

If any Venturer Scouts have mobility issues or could be adversely affected by activities involving, for example, blindfolding or loud noises, reasonable adjustments will be incorporated to accommodate those Scouts.

It is important that the course leaders are advised of any neuro diverse or physical issues in advance so that they can ensure the Venturer Scout is comfortable and obtains the most out of the course.
