Hiking the Gidjuum Gulganyi walk
9-14th April 2026
Participants will engage with the environmental conditions of far north NSW bushland and along the ancient volcanic caldera, areas where the participants have not previously hiked. There are also educational opportunities regarding the traditional owners of the land covering the hike. Participants will become familiar with the use of the track by the Widjabul Wia-bal and Minjungbal peoples for centuries before European settlement.
The start of the track is located at Manns Head Rd Trail Head (-28.4661, 153.3746)
Coordinates of all sleep points are:
Sand Ridge (n1): -28.4954, 153.3578
Yelgun Kyoomgun (n2): -28.5624, 153.3471
Weeun Weeun (n3): -28.5877, 153.3951
The hike ends at Minyon Falls lookout (-28.6126, 153.3902)
The journey officially starts on the 8th of April 2026, when Andy leaves to travel to Sydney. However for the rest of the group this will be when participants and my parents (Leaders - Kate Andrews & Evan Romanis) begin driving to Byron bay on the 9th. It will end upon arrival back to Melbourne for Andy, Scott, and Charley on the 15th of April, and on arrival back to Sydney on the 14th for other participants.
On the first day of the hike there is opportunity for swimming at Hell Hole Falls - Charley has basic water rescue, OAS bushwalking 6, and is a qualified swim instructor.
The time to initiate Overdue Protocol is if the group does not arrive back to Sydney on the 14th April, and/or if Andy/Charley/Scott does not arrive in Melbourne on the 15th.
