Additional Information

This is the South Coast & Tablelands Region's annual Flying Fox course, held at Bengalee Scout Camp, near Nowra NSW.

This course will provide the foundations of the first of four workbooks for those commencing their pathway to Trained Participant / Assistant Guide / Guide qualifications. 

The course commences at 7pm on Friday night with a series of theory lessons. Please plan your arrival to Bengalee having regard to setting up your tent space ideally prior to the course commencement - ideally not prior to 16:00 / 4pm unless by prior arrangement. 

Uniforms/scarves are not required. Please wear sturdy clothes suitable for working in.

The course is catered by the Shoalhaven Fellowship from Breakfast on Saturday to Afternoon Tea on Sunday. Please provide quite specific and detailed explanation of any particular dietary requirements (eg, allergies, GF, lactose/dairy free, religious requirements)

All participants will require:
Camping Gear (tent, stretcher, sleeping bag, pillow, blankets etc)
Writing implements
Mess kit (plate, bowl, cup, cutlery & tea towel) with named items
Camp clothes appropriate for the expected weather (25° during the day, 5° at night)

Toiletries, including sunscreen
Construction gloves are optional

Instructional staff may bring their own harnesses and helmets: these must be in date and are subject to the course manager’s inspection and approval. Course participants will be utilising the SC&T Fox gear. 

There are a maximum of 12 students for this course.  Minimum age of students is 15yo.

Important: There is an assumed (foundation) level of pioneering knowledge required for success on this course.

Youth should hold at least OAS Stage 5 Bushcraft (Pioneering), and adults to be at a comparable standard. 

All course participants must be able to tie the following knots/lashings:
Reef Knot
Clovehitch
Square Hitch
Rolling Hitch
Round Turn and Two Half Hitches
Trucker’s Hitch
Bowline

Flying Fox team shirts will be available for purchase - $30 cash only.

If you have any particular camping requirements (eg, access to power for CPAP machines), please also note this on your ePermission response. 
 

The student workbooks and construction guides will be provided electronically. Participants will require a device with Internet connection to access these reference materials.
