South & Illawarra bushwalks

This activity is for youth who are comfortable to work under indirect and remote supervision of a guide. Adult support will be on site however will provide seperation for youth to operate.

This activity was first run in January 2023 and is returning by popular demand. Max group size 12 - 16.

Garrawarra SCA, Heathcote NP, Royal NP, Illawarra Escarpment SRA, Grand Pacific Walk.

Proposed itinerary and route

You can join for some or all of this epic 8 day walking journey to Wollongong through some ancient and stunningly beautiful landscapes. Experience facinating inland and coastal environments, see the flora and forna, walk through disused railway tunnels and camp under the stars next to waterfalls. 

Thursday 7th January Helensburgh Station to Kingfisher Pool campground (1 x night) via Waterfall Station ~10 km
Friday 8th January Kingfisher Pool campground to Heathcote Station ~10 km

Monday 11th January Heathcote Station to Uloola Falls campground (1 x night) ~5 km
Tuesday 12th January Uloola Falls campground to Bonnie Vale campground (3 x nights) ~16 km
Wednesday 13th January Rest day @ Bonnie Vale Campground
Friday 14th January Bundeena to Garie Beach pick up shuttle bus to Sutherland Station ~16 km

Monday 17th January Helensburgh Station to Otford Station via Garie (Day walk, no overnight pack)

Thursday 20th January Otford Station to Austinmer Scout Hall 14 km
Friday 21st January Austinmer Scout Hall to Wollongong Station 16 km

Camping fee contribution $10 per night (total of $60)

Departure dependent on safe weather conditions.

Based in the national parks of South Sydney and the Illawarra. Option to join for one or multiple hikes.

Good fitness and health required.

Suitable for active kids who play sport or exercise regularly. All participants require a Scouts NSW membership number.
