This workshop will give participants the opportunity to obtain an Amateur Radio Foundation license qualification. To use an amateur radio, you require a license issued by the Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA).
An Amateur radio license will open the doors to many interesting and diverse activities involving radio in the STEM SIA. If you have an interest in technology or would like to involve your group in the Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) then this workshop will be of interest to you.
The workshop will take you through the required knowledge and skills to prepare you for the assessment. The formal assessment has two components. The first part involves a 25 question multiple choice written assessment with a pass mark of 70%. The second part is a practical assessment where you will be required to demonstrate some of the skills learned in the course. Amateur Radio assessments are managed by the Australian Marine College (AMC) on behalf of the ACMA. Further information regarding the assessment is available at: https://www.amc.edu.au/industry/amateur-radio
This workshop is open to Venturers, Rovers and Leaders who have registered to attend the Jamborette.
The workshop sessions will run at the same time as the Jamborette activity sessions. If you are participating in the workshop you will not be able to assist on the activity bases.
Please note the $90 fee covers the license assessment. There are additional costs if you wish to be issued with your own callsign. The AMC website provides further information on assessment and fees.
