Brief Summary:
Lessons on how to put an overnight Hike together. What not to carry, what to carry, What to expect. This activity is open to Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and even Leaders who want to brush up on their Bushwalking Skills.
Additional Information

This activity will cover a lot of what scouts and Venturers need to know and how to run an overnight bushwalk. If your keen on doing your bushwalking journey for your peak award, this day out is a must. We will cover lightweight backpacking, food to sustain your energy levels, water, equipment, group dynamics and conflict resolution, how to deal with emergencies, some basic first aid, navigation, communication in the field, remote supervision and Leadership.

We will also cover administration details such as

  1. Planning documents
  2. Risk Assesement
  3. Team day briefings
  4. Menu
  5. Parent permission forms

A theory night will be followed with a day hike from Heathcote scout camp to Camp Coutts. Some 10km of walking. Participants will have to carry a full overnight backpack and set up an overnight camp site including cooking a main meal. During the hike a number of mock scenarios will be experienced by the participants.

 

 

Cost will cover participants stationary, maps, and activity plans.
