Activity Overview

Monopoly Run is a large format wide game designed for youth and leaders of all ages! We have taken several locations around Parramatta and the Cumberland Area and turned them into Monopoly squares. All you need to do is find them first, buy them and make money - but watch out you don't end up in gaol!

Competitors compete in one of several games against similar aged patrols from other units. You can use public transport or walk (no private cars) and our game board for the cubs/joeys is smaller to allow for a more appropriate chance to win.

At the end of the game, we calculate the winner from each game, division (Joeys/Cubs and Scouts/Venturers/Rovers) and the overall winning group who will all walk away with a prize.

For a full description of the Monopoly Run, please download the rules above.

Who Can Come

This event is open to all members of Scouts NSW competing in patrols of 4 to 7 members. Patrols can be a mix of Joeys and Cubs, or Scouts/Venturers/Rovers.

Each Joey/Cub patrol must be accompanied by 2 adults, one of which must be an appointed leader.

Each patrol is a separate registration on the EMS application system. Adults registering to attend the event as a chaperone for a Joey/Cub patrol need to add themselves to that patrol registration, while adults looking to attend as staff need to create a separate registration.

Membership Requirements

All competitors must be members of good standing as of the day of competition (either in a provisional or current membership status on ScoutLink). Adult helpers must either be registered with ScoutLink or have completed an M5 form.

What to Bring

All competitors should bring some water, snacks, a hat, sunscreen, and a jumper. Competitors should wear their Scout Shirt and Scarf and comfortable enclosed shoes for heavy physical activity.  Lunch for this event is provided.

Competitors should also bring an Opal card with enough money on it to meet the daily fare cap for their ticket on the day of the run. You will also need 2 fully charged mobile phones per patrol and power bank is also a great idea.

Competitors may bring money but should not expect to visit a shop during the run.

The Game Board

The Game Board is spaced out around the Greater Parramatta and Cumberland Areas. There are several spaces grouped by colour that make up the properties and spaces of the Monopoly Run. Your aim is to make it to every space on your game board. The ones you miss may cost you the game...

All Game Board squares are reachable by walking and public transport.

Feeling Safe at Monopoly Run

Everyone in Scouts, youth and adults alike have the right to feel safe and be protected from abuse. No-one is allowed to threaten you, hurt you, or touch you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or afraid.

A Scout is respectful, and this applies to all interactions between all participants, youth, and adults at Monopoly Run.

You do not have to deal with abuse on your own. If you feel unsafe, threatened, or you see/hear something that causes you concern, please speak to a Leader or Rover on an activity. Your concerns will be taken seriously. The information you provide will be shared with people who can support and protect you.

If you don’t know what to do – speak to someone at Monopoly Run HQ.

If, for any reason, you do not feel the concerns of this nature which you raised at Monopoly Run have been satisfactorily dealt with, please report your concerns directly to the Child Protection Team at the NSW State Office on 02 9735 9000 or via ChildProtection@nsw.scouts.com.au or your parents.
