Brief Summary:
Murramarang South Coast Walk 3 Days, 2 Nights | October Labour Day Long Weekend The 1st Ermington Scout Group is organizing a Murramarang South Coast Walk to support a Scout in completing their Adventurous Journey for the Australian Scout Award. This activity is youth-led, planned, and executed by the Scout working towards their Peak Award. Key Details: Dates: Friday, 3rd October – Monday, 6th October Start/End Location: 1st Ermington Scout Hall Hike Route: Covers 34 kilometers, from Pretty Beach to Maloneys Beach, over three days. Scouts will camp the first night at Pretty Beach before starting the hike on Saturday 4th October Eligibility: Open to Scouts and under 16 Venturers. Participants must have experience with lightweight camping and bushwalking and possess good fitness. Bushwalking OAS Stage 3 or higher is recommended. Fees: $35 camping fee (non-refundable). Logistics: Two leaders will drive the Scouts to Pretty Beach and will remain in the area to provide support if needed. They will meet the Scouts at the hike’s endpoint at Maloneys Beach on Monday for the return journey to the hall. This 3-day, 2-night hike is a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and outdoor skills while working towards the Australian Scout Award.
Additional Information

Starting from the West Ryde Station, the Scouts will first travel by train to Woy Woy Station. From there, we will walk to the the Brisbane National Park. We will then make our way to the peak of Mount Wonderbyne where awe-inspiring vistas of the entire region will greet us.

The Route (Appx. 34 km):

  • Day 1: Pretty Beach to Depot Beach Campground (10 km)
    Camp overnight at Depot Beach Campground.
  • Day 2: Depot Beach Campground to Oaky Beach Campground (16 km)
    Experience bushland trails, stunning coastal views, and secluded beaches along the way.
  • Day 3: Oaky Beach Campground to Maloneys Beach (8 km)
    Conclude the hike at Maloneys Beach and return home.

This event offers Scouts opportunities to build their confidence and skills in bushwalking, with progressions toward OAS Bushwalking Stages 4-5.


Supervision & Leadership:

This activity is planned and led by a Scout (youth), with indirect and remote supervision by leaders and an Adventure Activity Guide. Leaders will remain in the area but will not intervene unless required, supporting the youth-led nature of the activity.


Equipment & Requirements:

1st Ermington Scouts can provide:

  • Hiking backpacks, shared tents, and stoves (if needed).
  • A detailed packing list will be supplied.

Eligibility:

  • Open to Scouts and Venturers with prior lightweight camping and bushwalking experience.
  • Good fitness and Bushwalking OAS Stage 3 or higher are required.
  • This activity is not for novice bushwalkers.

Preparatory Sessions:

Attendance at the following sessions is mandatory:

  1. Online Planning Session: Monday, 15th September @ 8:00 PM.
  2. In-person Bag Check/Weighing Session: Monday, 29th September @ 7:30 PM at 1st Ermington Scout Hall.

Costs:

  • $35 deposit: To be paid via bank transfer prior to the hike (details to be provided).
  • Additional costs for food and incidentals will be confirmed during the online planning session.

This hike promises a fantastic journey through pristine bushland, secluded beaches, and amazing coastal views. Scouts may even take a refreshing swim at one of the beaches, weather permitting!
