Brief Summary:
An intermediate level hike for Scouts and older in the Grose Valley within Blue Mtns National Park. Starting at Pierces Pass and descending to the Gross River, through the majestic Blue Gum Forest and camping at Acacia Flat. Distance is 8km each day. Spectacular views. There is a 500m descent/ascent over a 2km distance, so this is very steep. This hike is not suitable for younger or unfit hikers. There will the ample opportunities for OAS badgework and progression of adult bushwalking qualifications.

This hike is rated Medium difficulty. It is approximately 8km each day and includes a very significant 500m decent on day 1 and 500m acent on day 2.

Water purification tablets must be carried. Carry 1.5-2L water. An emergency meal must be carried. There are toilet facilities at the campsite.

Make sure your back pack fits properly and that it is not too heavy. Pack every thing inside the back pack, including the sleeping mat. Use light weight camping and cooking.
Pack weight should generally be less than 20% of body weight, although for small scouts this is not practical. A reasonable pack weight is around 12-13kg. Packs will be weighed at the start of the hike, excessively heavy packs may prevent you attending.

Youth wanting to complete bushwalking OAS badgework should bring a record of what they have aldready completed. Venturers, Rovers & Leaders wanting to progress to Trained Participant Bushwalking qualifications should bring a log of their hiking experience.

The Hume Region has Bushwalking equipment available for members as a result of a
generous successful grant from the NSW government, Sport and Recreation, Participation
Program.
There is a small charge for use of the equipment. The equipment MUST be returned within the
agreed time, in good condition, clean and dry.
Equipment includes, (approx 10 sets)
- Backpacks overnight. (various sizes)
- Backpack liner (water proof).
- Hike tents. 1, 2 and 3 person.
- Hike fly.
- Rain Coats.
- Sleeping Bags
- Sleeping bag liners (standard and thermal)
- Foam bed roll
- Saucepan with lid
- Hiking Stove (gas or solid fuel)
- Head torch
- First aid kit in dry bag and whistle.
- Compass
- GPS
